Refacing hangs brand-new doors and drawer fronts on cabinet boxes still worth keeping, or replaces a lone damaged door, after which every piece is sprayed at once so the whole kitchen reads as one matched set.
It is the middle road between painting and replacement for London kitchens whose boxes are sound but whose doors are not: peeling thermofoil in Summerside, swollen particleboard under a sink in Byron, or a 1970s slab door in Pond Mills that no amount of paint will make current. Where the doors are sound, plain kitchen cabinet painting is the cheaper answer.
A single door with lifted veneer, a drawer front swollen by a dishwasher leak, or a thermofoil door peeling over the range does not condemn the kitchen. We order one replacement, matched for size and close in profile, and run it through cabinet painting alongside its neighbours so colour and sheen come out identical. Measurements are taken before the old door comes down, and the new one hangs on the existing hinge holes.

When every door is the problem, the whole set of doors and drawer fronts is swapped for new ones, most often a shaker style in MDF or paint-grade wood, while the boxes never move. On-site spraying brings the frames and end panels to the same colour, the booth primes and sprays the new doors, and the kitchen ends up as one cabinet painting job in a single colour.
New doors change the look more than paint alone. A 1980s raised-panel oak kitchen in Oakridge becomes a shaker kitchen, and the boxes, which nobody looks at, stay. Hinges are usually swapped to soft-close at the same time, which the hardware and hinge page covers.
Ontario market ranges for 2026 put refacing between $3,000 and $10,000 depending on door count and material, against $2,500 to $5,500 for most cabinet painting jobs and $15,000 to $40,000 and more for a replacement kitchen. Refacing makes sense where boxes are solid, the layout works and only the doors let the kitchen down. It does not make sense when the boxes are water-damaged or the layout is wrong, and we say so at the visit. Those ranges describe the market; the number itself comes in the written quote.
The boxes have to be square, dry and solid. Leak-swollen particleboard, a sink base gone soft underfoot, or a carcass pulling away from its wall is not saved by new doors, and cabinet painting over it hides the problem for a season. The visit checks every box, and a bad one is either repaired first or the kitchen is pointed at replacement instead.
